Privacy Policy

How this website collects, uses, and protects your personal information, and the rights and choices you have over it.

Effective date: July 25, 2026 Last updated: July 25, 2026

01Who I am and what this policy covers

This website, mariejulianedavid.com (the “Site”), is the personal portfolio of Marie Juliane David, a journalist, poet, and novelist. In this policy, “I,” “me,” and “my” refer to Marie Juliane David, and “you” refers to any visitor to the Site.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information the Site collects, why, how it is used and shared, and the choices and rights you have. I am the person responsible for the information described here (the “data controller” under EU and UK data-protection law). You can reach me at any time at info@mariejulianedavid.com.

02Information I collect

Information you give me directly

  • Contact form. When you use the contact form, I collect your name, email address, the subject you select, and the content of your message.
  • Book requests. If you request a book directly from me, I collect your name, email address, shipping details, the quantity, and any note you add, so I can respond and arrange delivery.
  • Direct correspondence. If you email me or message me on social media, I receive whatever information you choose to include.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Like most websites, my host records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Cookies and analytics. The Site uses cookies and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it. See section 5 and the separate Cookie Policy for the details.

I do not ask for, and the Site does not need, sensitive personal information (such as health, financial, or government-ID data). Please do not send such information through the forms.

03How I use your information

I use the information above only for clear, limited purposes:

  • To read and reply to your inquiries, and to discuss possible work.
  • To process and fulfil book requests you send me.
  • To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which content is read and how people find the Site.
  • To comply with the law and to protect my rights if needed.

I do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and I do not sell it.

04Legal bases for processing (EU / UK visitors)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, I rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR:

  • Consent for non-essential cookies and analytics, which you can give or withdraw at any time.
  • Steps taken at your request (and, where relevant, performance of a contract) when I respond to an inquiry or handle a book request you initiate.
  • Legitimate interests in keeping the Site secure, preventing abuse, and understanding my audience in a privacy-respecting way, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation where the law requires me to retain or disclose information.

05Cookies and analytics

The Site uses a small number of essential cookies (needed for WordPress and the contact form to work) and, with your permission where required, Google Analytics to measure traffic. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data on my behalf; I have it configured for measurement only, not advertising.

Full details, including the specific cookies, their purpose, and how to control or refuse them, are in my Cookie Policy. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

06Who I share your information with

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. I share it only with the service providers that make the Site work, and only as needed:

  • Hosting. My web host stores the Site and its data and keeps server logs.
  • Contact form. The form plugin (WPForms) records and emails me the messages you submit.
  • Analytics. Google LLC processes usage data through Google Analytics.
  • Fonts. The Site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address when a page loads.
  • Email. My email provider handles messages we exchange.

I may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce my terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of myself or others. If the Site ever changes hands, information may transfer as part of that change, subject to this policy.

07International data transfers

I am based in the United States, and my service providers may process your information in the United States or other countries whose data-protection laws differ from those where you live. Where I transfer personal information out of the EEA or the UK, I rely on lawful transfer mechanisms (such as the Standard Contractual Clauses) offered by those providers.

08How long I keep your information

I keep contact-form and book-request messages for as long as needed to respond to you and to keep a reasonable record of our correspondence, then delete them when they are no longer needed. Analytics data is retained according to my Google Analytics settings. Server logs are kept for a limited period by my host for security and troubleshooting. You can ask me to delete your information sooner (see your rights below).

09Your rights (EU / UK / other GDPR regions)

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or a comparable jurisdiction, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information I hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Erase your information (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restrict or object to how I process it.
  • Portability, to receive your information in a usable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise any of these, email info@mariejulianedavid.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority, though I hope you will contact me first so I can help.

10Your rights (United States residents)

Depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information I collect and how I use it, to access or delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” for targeted advertising.

I do not sell your personal information and I do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. I will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, email info@mariejulianedavid.com; I may need to verify your identity before responding.

11How I protect your information

The Site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and I rely on reputable providers with their own security measures. No website or method of transmission is perfectly secure, so while I take reasonable steps to protect your information, I cannot guarantee absolute security.

12Children's privacy

The Site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided me with information, please contact me and I will delete it.

13Third-party and affiliate links

The Site links to other websites, including publications where my work appears, book retailers, and social media. Some links are affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. These external sites have their own privacy practices, and I am not responsible for their content or how they handle your information. Please review their policies when you visit them.

14Changes to this policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When I do, I will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. Significant changes may be noted more prominently. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
